Textstr
Text your landline.
Textstr lets customers text a business on the landline number it already has. Messages arrive by email, the team replies from email, and the customer gets a text back. It is a live product with paying customers, which I run and develop.
How it works
Keep your number
The business text-enables the landline it already advertises. No new number to print, publish or explain.
Customers text it
Anyone who would have called can send a text to the same number instead.
The team answers from email
Each text arrives in the inbox the team already uses. A reply from email goes back to the customer as a text.
How it is built
Messaging, email and billing
Texts run through Twilio, email through Mailgun, and subscriptions through Stripe, behind one account per business.
A 2026 redesign
The navigation, inbox, sign-in and reporting views were rebuilt in 2026 without changing what existing customers rely on.
Moved to new infrastructure
The product was migrated onto new AWS servers with a managed database, with the old box kept until the new one was proven.
Not tied to one trade
The trade a business is in is stored per account and drives the wording, so the product never assumes who its customer is.
